The Maremma is known for its ability to bond closely with all livestock, with whom it assumes a protective parental role. Maremmas demonstrate an aloof awareness as leaders of their adopted family, while readily accepting a secondary role to its bond with humans. The dogs accepts humans as leaders but not masters. Remember Maremmas need to think for themselves in the case of an external threat. |

It is strongly recommended that you do advance preparation. The Maremma Sheep Club of America sells a "How to do it" book. Call and visit breeders farms and make sure you do not buy from a first time breeder, look for an experienced breeder who is willing to spend the time with you to help with any problems encountered. Also ask for references, pedigrees, and NEVER buy from a pet breeder or kennel. |
